Security agencies in Bushenyi District have made significant progress in investigations into a wave of aggravated robberies and livestock-related crimes recorded during February 2026.
According to the Uganda Police Force, six aggravated robbery cases involving firearms were registered across Bushenyi District and Ishaka Division.
The incidents occurred in Kyeitembe West Cell, Kyanyamabona Village, Katungu Cell, and Katooma Cell, among other locations.
During a robbery attempt at a bar in Katooma Cell, members of the public intercepted and arrested one suspect, identified as Kankiriho Ramathan alias Samuel.
Police later re-arrested him and arraigned him in court on multiple robbery charges after sufficient evidence was gathered. Investigations into several other robbery files are still ongoing due to insufficient evidence at the time of submission.
Police also recorded six additional aggravated robbery cases involving crude weapons such as pangas, sticks, and stones.
Following thorough investigations, three suspects, Byampiika Eliad alias Boyize, Ssekajja Ramathan alias Kyojo, and Basajja Rashid were arrested and presented before court.
The suspects were subsequently remanded as investigations continue. Authorities are still pursuing other suspects who remain at large.
In a related development, Police are investigating a disturbing case involving the alleged unlawful killing of 53 heads of cattle.
Police preferred criminal trespass charges against Turyasingura Gordon, who is currently in custody.
The case file has already been submitted to the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance, and the suspect is expected to appear in court.
Another suspect, Nuwagaba Damalie, a hotel operator suspected of dealing in cow heads, was also arrested to help police establish the circumstances surrounding the cattle deaths.
A General Enquiry File has been opened to guide the broader investigation.
SP Tayebwa Apollo, the greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson commended residents who assisted in the arrest of suspects and urged the public to remain vigilant while sharing timely intelligence with security agencies.
He also reaffirmed Police’s commitment to pursuing all identified suspects and ensuring they face justice.
