Police in Kampala have arrested a suspected motorcycle robber who was allegedly targeting bank customers after withdrawals.
The suspect, identified as Wagaba Hussen, a 27-year-old resident of Kayunga in Wakiso District, was arrested on Friday following an attempted robbery in Najeera. The arrest followed a quick response by police after a victim raised an alarm during the incident.
The victim, Nakawomne Deborah, 27, had reportedly withdrawn UGX 21 million from a bank in Ntinda and hired a boda boda to take her home to Buwaate. While nearing Najeera, a few meters from the police station opposite Stabex, another motorcycle approached at high speed, and the passenger attempted to grab her bag.
Deborah immediately raised an alarm, prompting nearby police officers to respond swiftly. One suspect, who was riding the motorcycle, escaped through heavy traffic. However, the passenger who snatched the bag was arrested, and the UGX 21 million was fully recovered.
According to Luke Oweyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, the suspect is being held at Najjera Police Station as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend the accomplice.
