The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has formally committed Christopher Okello Onyum to the High Court for trial over the murder of four children in Ggaba, following the filing of committal papers before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye.

Onyum faces four counts of murder linked to a tragic incident that occurred on April 2, 2026, at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Center in Makindye Division, Kampala. The victims, all infants and toddlers, were under the care of the daycare facility at the time.

According to the prosecution, investigations point to a series of deliberate actions leading up to the incident. Evidence to be presented during trial is expected to show that the accused planned the attack in advance. A medical assessment has since confirmed that he is mentally fit to stand trial.

Prosecutors say they will rely on evidence demonstrating malice aforethought, including alleged prior planning, acquisition of weapons, and the manner in which the offence was carried out.

The committal marks a key step in the judicial process, allowing the High Court to take over proceedings in the case.
