Police in Mubende District have arrested a man identified as Ayesiga Christopher, a resident of Mandela Ward in Hoima City, in connection with the theft of two cows intercepted on Monday night.
According to the Uganda Police Force, Ayesiga was apprehended while attempting to flee, thanks to the vigilance of community members.
Police say the operation unfolded at around 3:00 a.m. when officers on routine patrol mounted a snap checkpoint at Kisiita Village along the Butawata–Kuminamukaga Road.
“A white Toyota Noah, registration number UA 379AR, was flagged down, but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Upon inspection, officers discovered a bull tied up and concealed under a tarpaulin,” said police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma on Tuesday evening.
Kituuma added that during interrogation, Ayesiga revealed that two vehicles had been used in the theft.
“One was allegedly driven by a suspect only identified as Nduna, while the driver of the Toyota Noah remains at large,” he said.
Further follow-up led to the recovery of a second cow at Kabateza Village, where it had been abandoned by another vehicle that evaded interception.
“Both animals have since been safely transported to Mubende Police Station as investigations continue,” Kituuma said.
