Police in Masaka have arrested a journalist and two TikTok users over the alleged publication of false information, targeting Masaka City Woman MP-elect Justin Nameere.
The suspects have been identified as Frank Bwekumbule, a journalist with Impact FM, alongside Frank Kagwa and Joseph Kikawa.
According to police, the trio allegedly used TikTok between March and April 2025 to circulate claims describing Nameere as a cheat, fraudster, and thief. They are also accused of alleging that she obtained coffee seedlings from farmers without payment, claims investigators say were malicious and intended to damage her reputation.
Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the arrests and said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Kasirye also revealed that Bwekumbule was assaulted under unclear circumstances. Police are currently reviewing evidence, including CCTV footage, to identify those responsible for the attack.
He condemned acts of violence and the use of abusive language, emphasizing that police are actively pursuing all leads related to both the alleged defamation and the assault.
