Elected political leaders in Rubanda District are rallying behind unity as the cornerstone for accelerating development and improving service delivery.

Leaders say fostering cooperation across political and religious lines is now a deliberate strategy to bridge past divisions, strengthen governance, and drive socio-economic transformation. The approach emphasizes collective action on national and district priorities, with leaders committing to work together for the common good.

Following the January 2026 elections, Rubanda has witnessed what many describe as an unprecedented spirit of collaboration among its top leadership. State Minister for Finance (General Duties) and Rubanda East MP, Hon. Henry Musasizi, retained his seat, while Hon. Bruce Baraba Kabaasa was elected Rubanda West MP after defeating incumbent Hon. Moses Kamuntu Mwongera. Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda was elected District Woman MP defeating incumbent Hon Prosy Mbabazi Begumisa, and Steven Kasyaba was re-elected District Chairperson, among others.

Several leaders note that this cooperation and mutual understanding began even before their swearing-in, setting a strong foundation for teamwork.

They argue that holistic transformation of Rubanda can only be achieved through unity among all leaders, regardless of political affiliation or religious background. Maintaining this working relationship, they say, will be key to sustaining development momentum.

Minister Musasizi attributes the district’s previous development gains, particularly in education, road rehabilitation, and water infrastructure, to stability within the district council. He contrasts this with past tensions at the parliamentary level, where poor relationships among legislators led to fragmented efforts and slowed progress.

He, however, expresses optimism that the renewed cooperation between local and national leaders will enhance service delivery, strengthen poverty reduction efforts, support households transitioning from subsistence to commercial livelihoods, and ensure effective implementation of the NRM manifesto. According to him, the newly elected MPs have committed to putting community interests above personal ambitions.

Rubanda West MP-elect, Hon. Bruce Balaba Kabaasa, echoes these sentiments, noting that leaders are now “thinking alike,” which is critical for coordinated planning and execution. He cites the recent NRM retreat in Kyankwanzi, where Rubanda leaders quickly agreed on a memorandum for the district, unlike in the past when disagreements delayed such processes.

Balaba also points to the solidarity shown during the elections, where Minister Musasizi and Hon. Ninsiima supported him throughout the process. He describes this as a clear demonstration of leadership built on trust and cooperation, which he intends to carry forward in serving the people.

Bufundi Sub-county District Councillor-elect Sam Twimukye says the future of Rubanda lies in leaders who embrace tolerance and cooperation. He cites the recent burial of former Bufundi NRM chairperson Henry Twimukye, which brought together leaders from across political and religious divides, as a strong sign of renewed unity.

He adds that the quick reconciliation among leaders after the elections reflects a shared commitment to moving forward together.

Rubanda District Youth Councillor Arinda Wilfred Nsheeka acknowledges the district’s achievements in education, such as the establishment of Kibuzigye and Ruhija seed schools, as well as improvements in health infrastructure but notes that progress was previously slowed by a lack of cohesion among leaders.

He stresses that sustainable development will require leaders who are willing to set aside personal interests and work collectively, an approach he believes the current leadership has demonstrated.
