Government has terminated the services of the Chairperson of the Board at the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited and placed the Managing Director on forced leave as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery in the power sector.
The decision, announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, follows a routine management and operational review of the national electricity distribution utility.
To ensure continuity of operations and stability in service delivery, the company’s shareholders have appointed an Interim Board Chairperson.
In addition, the Board has named an Acting Managing Director to oversee UEDCL’s day-to-day operations during the transition period until substantive appointments are made.
Energy and Mineral Development Minister Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu emphasized that the changes are part of standard governance oversight measures intended to enhance accountability, efficiency, and institutional performance.
Despite the leadership adjustments, the Ministry assured the public that electricity distribution services across Uganda will continue without interruption.
Government further noted that the reforms are aimed at strengthening the long-term stability of the power distribution system and ensuring improved service delivery for consumers nationwide.
