The Minister of State for Finance, Henry Musasizi, has been sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Rubanda East County for the 2026–2031 term.
Musasizi was among the 170 Members of Parliament who took the oath on the second day of the swearing-in ceremony at Parliament on Thursday.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislator secured a fourth term after defeating his closest rival, independent candidate Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, in the recently concluded general elections.
Musasizi garnered 36,534 votes, comfortably beating Biryabarema, who polled 15,961 votes, giving him a margin of 20,573 votes. Four candidates contested for the seat, including Democratic Front Party candidate Jasper Ayebare, who received 42 votes, and independent Collins Victor Atuhaire, who secured 131 votes.
Speaking after taking the oath, Musasizi thanked the people of Rubanda for continuously entrusting him with leadership since 2011.
He said his new term would focus on consolidating previous achievements, with particular emphasis on fighting poverty in the largely rural constituency, where many households still depend on subsistence farming.
Musasizi noted that about 35 percent of households in Rubanda District are still outside the money economy.
“During this new term, we shall build on the achievements registered under the Parish Development Model (PDM) to ensure that as many households as possible are brought into the money economy,” Musasizi said.
He added that government plans to increase funding for larger parishes under the PDM programme to enable more households to benefit.
“We have parishes with more than 5,000 people and over 2,000 households. In this term, we intend to allocate additional resources to such big parishes so that we can cover more households and improve livelihoods,” he added.
