The Minister of Finance (General Duties), Henry Musasizi, has issued a strong warning against corruption in local government institutions, particularly within district service commissions, where he said some officials are allegedly soliciting bribes from job seekers.

Minister Musasizi made the remarks while addressing councilors during the official swearing-in ceremony of Rubanda District leaders at the district headquarters in Rubanda Town Council on Friday. The ceremony also saw the swearing-in of Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba, for a new term in office.

Minister Musasizi cited a case involving a teacher identified as Anthony, who was reportedly asked to pay Shs4 million in exchange for placement on the government payroll but never secured the job. He condemned the act, stressing that public jobs must be awarded on merit and warning that those involved in such corrupt practices would face consequences.

Kabaasa said that despite government efforts to promote education, many Ugandan children continue to drop out of school before completing their studies, a challenge he described as a major setback to the country’s social and economic development.

He also expressed concern over the current structure of Uganda’s education system, particularly at the primary level, arguing that it does not adequately prepare learners to perform well by the end of the primary education cycle.

Meanwhile, Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda, pledged to work closely with all leaders in the district to improve service delivery and accelerate development while warning against political divisions and conflicts.

Ninsiima commended residents for rejecting what she described as propaganda, misinformation, hatred, and divisive politics in favour of development-oriented leadership.
