Police in Rubanda District have arrested a suspected highway robber who allegedly escaped after abandoning a motorcycle and a stolen calf during a robbery incident along the Kabale–Kisoro highway.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Atuheire Elly, a resident of Nyarugarama Cell, Nyaruhanga Ward in Rubanda Town Council, was arrested on Friday evening in Rubanda Town while reportedly riding another red Bajaj motorcycle without a registration number.

According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the suspect had allegedly fled on the night of May 21, 2026, after abandoning a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UEV 958H, together with a stolen calf during an operation linked to highway robbery along the Kabale–Kisoro road.

Police said the suspect’s arrest followed ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at cracking down on criminal gangs disrupting security in the Kigezi sub-region.
