The newly elected LCIII Chairperson for Northern Division in Kabale Municipality, Patrick Tushabomwe, has directed the reintroduction of community service in the division as part of efforts to improve service delivery and sanitation.

Tushabomwe made the announcement on Tuesday during his swearing-in ceremony held at the Northern Division offices in Kabale Municipality. The ceremony was presided over by the Kabale Chief Magistrate, His Worship Derrick Byamugisha.

Speaking shortly after taking office, Tushabomwe said many residents had abandoned their responsibilities and left everything to the government. He explained that the revived community service initiative will encourage residents to actively participate in opening feeder roads and clearing blocked drainage channels affected by human activities.

He noted that whenever it rains, several feeder roads become impassable while some homes are submerged due to blocked drainage systems.

Meanwhile, Kabale Municipality Mayor Sentaro Byamugisha declared the ongoing trade space allocation process for traders affected by the trade order in Upper Bugongi, Northern Division, null and void.

Speaking as the chief guest during the swearing-in ceremony of Northern Division councilors, Byamugisha said the ongoing process of relocating traders affected by the Trade Order had been marred by corruption.

He alleged that some elected Kabale Municipal councilors had hijacked the process by allocating themselves the first spaces, which he described as illegal.

Byamugisha urged the newly elected leaders to work with all residents, including those who did not vote for them, saying opposition and criticism help leaders improve service delivery despite political differences.
