Outgoing Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has officially handed over office to the newly appointed Finance Minister, Henry Musasizi, in a transition marked by calls for continuity, teamwork and sustained economic growth.
The handover ceremony also saw Musasizi transfer his former role as State Minister for General Duties to Cissy Mulondo as Uganda’s Finance Ministry ushers in a new political leadership team.
Also present at the event were Amos Lugoloobi, who retained his position as State Minister for Planning, and Amina Mukalazi, who recently assumed office as State Minister for Investment and Privatisation.
Speaking during the handover on Friday, Kasaija reflected on his time at the Ministry of Finance, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve and urging the incoming leadership to maintain close collaboration with the technical staff to achieve government priorities.
He emphasized that Uganda’s economy is on a growth trajectory and cautioned against any disruptions that could undermine the country’s economic progress.
“The economy is growing and nobody or anything should be allowed to disrupt this steady growth,” Kasaija said.
Minister Musasizi, in his remarks, paid tribute to his predecessor for laying what he described as a strong foundation that has enabled the ministry to effectively deliver on its development objectives.
He called on the ministry’s political leadership to work collectively in supporting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s vision for the country.
“We must work as a team to support H.E the President achieve his vision,” Musasizi said.
The Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, praised Kasaija for providing political guidance and fostering harmony within the ministry’s leadership during his tenure.
“You have been a good ambassador of the Ministry,” Dr. Ggoobi said, while also congratulating Musasizi and the ministers of state, assuring them of full support from the ministry’s technical team.
