Residents of Salute B Cell in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, woke up to shock on Thursday morning after a 35-year-old boda boda rider was found dead in his rented room in an apparent suicide.
The deceased was identified as Weaklif Babyeho, a resident of Salute B.
The LC I Chairperson, Janet Mbambu, confirmed the incident, saying residents reported seeing Babyeho alive in the morning before he was later discovered hanging inside his room.
Mbambu criticized residents for failing to immediately notify local leaders and the police after the body was discovered. She explained that prompt reporting enables investigators to carry out an Initial On-scene Verification (IOV), which is crucial in establishing the circumstances surrounding a death and ruling out any possibility of foul play.
Some residents who spoke to our reporter claimed Babyeho had struggled with excessive alcohol consumption and suspected that alcohol and drug abuse could have contributed to the incident.
A senior resident, George Mumbere, expressed concern over the increasing availability of cheap drugs in the area, warning that substance abuse is becoming a growing challenge among young people.
By press time, police had not yet visited the scene to commence investigations into the incident.
