Police in Kasese are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly strangled in Hima Town Council, Kasese District.
The deceased has been identified as Bwambale Wisborna, a resident of Kasojo Cell, Kisenyi Ward, Hima Town Council.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 20, at an unspecified time after midnight.
Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said preliminary investigations indicate that Bwambale returned home at about 1am and knocked on the door, which was opened by Turyasingura Reagan, 10, with whom he was staying.
The two reportedly went to sleep before Bwambale was discovered dead later that morning.
Police said a colleague who had been making chapatis with Bwambale went to wake him up and discovered his body.
The area chairperson, John Bato, informed police, who visited and documented the scene.
“Scene of crime officers visited and documented the scene. However, the police canine unit was not introduced because the scene had already been tampered with,” ASP Maate said.
The body was retrieved and taken to Kasese Municipality Health Centre for a postmortem examination.
Police said the deceased had a piece of cloth tied around his neck, which is suspected to have been used in the strangulation, while both legs were also tied with a similar piece of cloth.
Investigators suspect that Bwambale could have been killed outside the house before his body was taken inside and the door bolted from outside, as no one in the neighbourhood reportedly heard any disturbance.
ASP Maate said inquiries had been initiated to establish the motive for the killing and identify the suspects.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, the motive and the suspects involved,” he said.
