Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has weighed in on Uganda’s heated debate over miraculous healing, sparked by businessman Frank Gashumba’s Shs500 million challenge to pastors claiming to perform miracles.
Muhoozi referenced the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable in Bethlehem rather than a palace in Jerusalem, cautioning against dismissing religious messengers simply because they appear insignificant or lack grandeur.
However, the army chief also cited Matthew 7:16, which teaches that people can be recognised by their fruits, suggesting that religious leaders should ultimately be judged by their actions and the results of their ministry.

His remarks come amid growing calls for accountability in Uganda’s religious sector, following Gashumba’s public challenge to pastors to demonstrate their healing claims by treating patients in hospitals.
Gashumba has repeatedly questioned pastors who claim to heal the sick miraculously, challenging them to prove their powers by healing patients in intensive care units (ICUs).
The debate has attracted public attention, with questions emerging over the credibility of some religious leaders and the alleged exploitation of vulnerable believers.
Muhoozi’s remarks appear to strike a balance between cautioning against prematurely dismissing religious figures and encouraging the public to assess them based on their deeds
