Police in Kabale District have arrested two parents for allegedly conspiring with a traditional healer to sacrifice their nine-month-old baby, John Boso Mugabe, for reasons yet to be established.
The suspects currently held at Kabale Central Police station have been identified as Wilber Turyatemba and Kyomukama Agnes, residents of Bunagana Village, Mayengo Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county in Kabale District.
According to a statement issued by Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime on October 21, the incident reportedly occurred on October 16, 2026, at around 9am.
Police said the baby’s uncle, Twinomugabe Deus, became suspicious on October 20 after meeting Kyomukama at Bunagana Trading Centre without the child, whom she reportedly used to carry on her back.
When Twinomugabe asked about the baby’s whereabouts, Kyomukama allegedly told him that she had handed the child over to a woman from Kabale town to take care of him.
The explanation raised suspicion, prompting inquiries into the child’s whereabouts, which reportedly led to the discovery of the alleged murder.
Police said the baby’s body was retrieved from the scene and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
SP Tumushime said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and identify everyone involved in the alleged crime.
