Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Executive Secretary and Kasambya County Member of Parliament Daudi Kabanda has taken a sarcastic swipe at former Aruu County MP Odonga Otto, mockingly describing him as the “Director, Association of All the Beggars in Uganda.”
Kabanda made the remark in a message laced with laughter emojis, appearing to ridicule Otto through a label that suggests a culture of seeking favours and assistance among individuals in political circles.
The PLU executive secretary did not mince his words in the brief statement, choosing a mocking description that could spark fresh exchanges between political figures and attract attention from their supporters on social media.
Otto, a former legislator who represented Aruu County in Pader District, has been a familiar figure in Uganda’s political arena. His political engagements and public statements have occasionally drawn attention from supporters and critics alike.
Kabanda, meanwhile, has emerged as a prominent figure within the Patriotic League of Uganda, a political pressure group associated with Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. As the group’s executive secretary, Kabanda regularly participates in political discussions and public exchanges involving national affairs.
The latest remark adds to the increasingly sharp language used by politicians and public figures when commenting on their rivals and personalities in the country’s political landscape.
Although Kabanda’s statement appeared intended as a joke or political jab, the choice of words could be interpreted as an attempt to embarrass Otto publicly. However, the remarks alone do not establish that the former MP has engaged in begging or seeking favours.
It was not immediately clear what prompted Kabanda to make the comment, and no response from Otto was included in the information available about the exchange. The incident highlights how social media and public commentary have become platforms for political figures to ridicule one another, using humour, sarcasm and provocative labels to draw attention and communicate their views.
Whether Otto will respond to Kabanda’s description remains to be seen. For now, the PLU executive secretary’s remark has placed the former legislator at the centre of a fresh political talking point.
