The Chief Magistrates Court in Kabale has adjourned to November 24, 2026, a case in which a 45-year-old businessman is accused of stealing a motor vehicle valued at Shs160 million.
The accused, Alex Akankwasa, a resident of Kibira B Zone, Wassajja Ward, Makindye Division in Kampala, appeared before Kabale Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha on Monday.
Court heard that in December 2024, while in Kampala, Akankwasa allegedly fraudulently converted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, registration number UBS 085E, belonging to Deusdedit Musinguzi, with the intention of using it as security to obtain a loan from FIN Credit Uganda Limited.
During the court proceedings, Akankwasa applied for bail, but the State Attorney opposed the application, arguing that his release could jeopardise ongoing investigations.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently remanded him to Ndorwa Government Prison until November 6, 2026, when he was expected to return to court.
However, when the matter came up on Friday, November 6, the court adjourned the case to November 24, 2026, and ordered that Akankwasa remain on remand until the next hearing.
