KISORO – Kisoro Municipality is on the brink of an impending epidemic following the rampant littering of fecal matter around toilets near the Kisoro district headquarters.

In an investigative report, our journalist discovered numerous pathways surrounding the toilets marred by human waste. The unsightly feces were notably present near the district works department, encircling the eucalyptus tree at the district headquarters, and behind Gashumba’s pub. With district toilets closed, desperate residents have resorted to open defecation, even on the veranda of the toilets located in front of the district headquarters.

James Agaba, the district councilor for the Southern division, contends that the municipality’s sanitation crisis stems from the district’s neglect in maintaining these facilities. He emphasizes the difficulty residents face in addressing their basic sanitary needs and warns that the municipality’s struggle with sanitation might impede its pursuit of city status. Agaba discloses that the Kisoro district council has unanimously decided to demolish the problematic toilets immediately.

However, both the Kisoro district Chairman, Abel Bizimana, and the Kisoro Municipality Health Inspector, Moses Acar, opted to remain silent on the matter, deflecting blame onto each other.
