RUKIGA – Police in Rukiga District have recovered the lifeless body of a 20-year-old man from a deep bricklaying pond filled with stagnant water in Muhanga Town Council.
The deceased, identified as Michael Akandinda, belonged to the Mukiga tribe and was a peasant residing in Nyamabare Cell, Muhanga Ward, Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi region police, revealed that Akandinda had gone missing from his home on the 25th of November 2023. His lifeless body was discovered yesterday at 08:00 AM in the aforementioned pond by local residents. Subsequently, they informed the chairperson of Lc1 Nyamabare cell.
Maate further stated that a drowning report was filed at the Muhanga police station. The scene was promptly visited and documented by the Deputy Criminal Investigation Department Officer (D/CID/O) and the team. The body was successfully retrieved and transported for postmortem examination before being handed over to the relatives.
Maate mentioned that Akandinda’s body exhibited no signs of physical injuries but was covered in mud at the time of discovery.
