Security Guard Arrested for Shooting Peasant in Kazo

KAZO: Police in Kazo District have arrested a security guard from Saracen Security Company who allegedly shot and killed a 55-year-old peasant.

The suspect, identified as Michael Mujurizi (43), is accused of shooting Sunday Emmanuel, a resident of Kazo II, Kazo Town Council, Kazo District.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday around 9:45 PM in Kazo II. The case was reported to the police on Tuesday at 12:10 PM by the Manager for Western Uganda of Saracen Security Company.

According to reports, the suspect provides security to the residence and farm of Mr. Ruyondo Kwame. On Monday at around 9:45 PM, while patrolling the farm, Mujurizi encountered a person armed with a panga collecting firewood. As the person attempted to flee, Mujurizi allegedly shot him in the back.

“The suspect informed his boss, who reported the matter to Kazo Police Station. A case of murder by shooting was opened, and the scene was visited by police,” stated SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson.

Kasasira noted that the crime scene was documented, and a preliminary examination of the body by the Scenes of Crime Officer revealed that the deceased was shot from behind, with the bullet exiting through the chest.

Police recovered one cartridge at the scene and also retrieved the weapon, a CAR gun with serial number 12053656, along with three live rounds of ammunition.

“The body of the deceased was taken to Ibanda Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem, and the suspect was arrested to assist with investigations,” Kasasira said.

He added that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
