KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, for her pivotal role in responding to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s reform of broad-based democracy.
Speaking at the launch of “The Pathway to Greatness,” a book authored by Rt. Hon. Kadaga yesterday at Kololo Independence Grounds, President Museveni highlighted the importance of women’s involvement in politics, attributing their increased representation to affirmative action.
President Museveni noted that the NRM government, since coming into power in 1986, aimed to rectify the past exclusion of women by implementing ideas of broad-based democracy.
He emphasized the significance of affirmative action in bringing forth leaders like Rt. Hon. Kadaga. Reflecting on the current parliamentary landscape, he underlined the limited number of women elected through the constituency method, emphasizing the necessity of affirmative action to broaden democracy.
Describing Rt. Hon. Kadaga as a committed fighter, President Museveni praised her contributions to various institutions, including her advocacy for the East African Federation.
He expressed gratitude for her dedication and acknowledged her book, “The Pathway to Greatness.”
Rt. Hon. Kadaga shared that the book narrates her journey, explaining the challenges, successes, and experiences that shaped her. Noting that it’s not an autobiography, she expressed the inspiration behind it—people expressing a desire to emulate her without understanding her full journey.
Ms. Anne Kabagambe, a friend of Rt. Hon. Kadaga, lauded her steadfast passion and commitment to women’s empowerment, emphasizing her hardworking and disciplined nature.
The event, attended by dignitaries including 3rd Deputy Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama, celebrated Rt. Hon. Kadaga’s accomplishments and her dedication to empowering women.
