NEWS – The UPDF has initiated the mobilization and recruitment of Local Defence Personnel (LDPs) in Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Bunyangabo, Kyenjojo, and Kasese districts today.
In response to attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces in the Rwenzori Sub-region, the President and Commander-in-Chief have directed the reactivation of Local Defence Structures around Kibale National Park and Greater Rwenzori Sub-region.
This aims to safeguard communities from ADF threats.
Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the Defense Spokesperson, outlined a two-phase recruitment plan.
Phase 1, spanning from December 27, 2023, to January 10, 2024, will cover Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, and Bunyangabo districts.
Phase 2, focusing on Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, and Kasese, will commence immediately after Phase 1, mirroring its procedures.
Kulayigye emphasized that the mobilization and recruitment will adhere to a Quota system, involving sixty (60) Parishes/Wards.
“Each Parish/Ward is expected to contribute 12 recruits, totaling 720 personnel in Phase 1,” he stated.
The Resident District Commissioner, Deputy Resident District Commissioners, UPDF, Uganda Police Force, Internal Security Organisation, LC1 Chairpersons, and Secretaries for Defence will collaboratively conduct the mobilization.
