KAMPALA – Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has dismissed allegations of Ugandans being arrested for wearing red berets, citing instances of Members of Parliament donning them without repercussions.

She referenced Lilian Aber’s apology for wearing a UPDF uniform, suggesting that ignorance might have been a factor.

Nabbanja’s response came amidst concerns raised by Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi regarding the selective enforcement of the law, pointing out discrepancies in how individuals wearing red berets are treated compared to those wearing actual UPDF uniforms.

Meanwhile, the UPDF spokesperson, Brigadier Gen. Felix Kulayigye, confirmed the arrest of the soldier who provided the uniform to the MP, following her apology.
