RUKIGA – Police in Rukiga District have responded to a tragic accident that resulted in the loss of Yokana Ssempebwa’s life, a resident of Ntungamo cell in Karorwa parish, Bukinda Sub County, Rukiga District.
According to Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region Police, the incident occurred on the 27th of September 2023 at approximately 09:40 AM at Bukinda Trading Centre, Ntungamo cell, Karorwa parish, along the Kabale-Ntungamo road. An overspeeding Toyota Prado Land Cruiser, with silver registration number UBB 193K, owned by NWSC and driven by Kuruga Ambrose, a resident of Bunyonyi, was traveling from Kabale to Ntungamo when it veered out of its lane, colliding with Yokana, who was riding his bicycle towards Kabale.
Maate reported that the Police promptly arrived at the scene, and Yokana was rushed to Kabale Referral Hospital. Tragically, he did not survive and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The primary cause of the accident, as determined by Maate, was excessive speeding. Consequently, the vehicle involved in the accident was seized and taken to Rukiga Central Police Station, awaiting inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
Furthermore, the driver, Kuruga Ambrose, was apprehended and taken into custody.
