Police in Kanungu District have launched a manhunt for an unidentified driver responsible for the death of a 17-year-old student from Kihanda Technical School.
The fatal accident occurred on Sunday at around 5:30 PM at Rugando Trading Centre along the Kihanda–Katete road. According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the incident involved an unknown vehicle.
The deceased has been identified as Lazarus Ainebyona. Maate said Ainebyona was traveling with other students in a motor vehicle, returning from a camping trip, when he reportedly fell off the vehicle and died on the spot.
Police Constable Matanda visited the scene and the body was taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination. The vehicle involved in the incident, along with its driver, remains at large.
Investigations are ongoing.
