KAMPALA – The Traffic and Road Safety Directorate has documented 412 road crashes from December 3 to December 9, 2023, affecting a total of 390 individuals.
Out of the 390 victims, 63 tragically lost their lives, while 327 sustained injuries.
According to SP Micheal Kananura, the Public Relations Officer, 27 of the recorded fatalities involved motorcycles, encompassing 14 passengers, 13 riders, and 26 pedestrians.
Kananura identified improper overtaking, speeding, and following too closely as the primary causes of these incidents.
He urges road users to minimize the risk of accidents during the approaching festive season by strictly adhering to traffic regulations.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Rather than placing blame on others, recognize your role as a responsible road user,” emphasized SP Kananura.
