Two Women Die in Katakwi Accident

KATAKWI: Two women returning from a women’s conference in Katakwi district tragically lost their lives after a Fuso truck lost control on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the Fuso, with registration number UAL, was traveling from Katakwi district to Kachumbala in Bukedea district when the accident occurred.

Bosco Egasu, the secretary in the office of LCI, confirmed the incident. He stated that the accident was caused by overspeeding.

“The incident happened in Kide village, Abela parish, in Getom Sub County,” Egasu said.

Hon. David Eilor Kadogo, Chairman LCIII of Getom Sub County, expressed concern about the increasing number of accidents in Abela parish, which he described as becoming a hotspot for such incidents.

He urged the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to implement additional safety measures to prevent accidents on the Soroti-Karamoja road.

“At least let them put humps starting from Getom trading centre to Katakwi Technical,” Eilor suggested.

Hon. Geoffrey Omolo, LCV of Katakwi district, expressed his concern about the state of the district, describing it as dire. He urged people to remain calm as doctors attend to the injured.

Deputy RDC of Katakwi, Xavier Vincent Okwi, confirmed that over 78 women were on board the Fuso. He called on drivers to exercise caution while on the roads.

The injured were taken to Katakwi General Hospital and Soroti Referral Hospital for proper medical care.
