KALAKI: A group of farmers in Obwolo Sub County of Kalaki district find themselves in a dire situation, desperately searching for a suspected swindler who posed as an agricultural specialist, promising them prosperity but leaving them stranded and out of pocket to the tune of roughly 2.5 million shillings.
These disillusioned farmers, who mustered the courage to speak to www.thesource.co.ug, recount how they were approached by a man named James Eragu. Eragu convinced them to pool their resources, each contributing 25,000 shillings towards purchasing sacks of tomato seeds. He sweetened the deal by promising to provide additional equipment for maintaining their tomato gardens.
However, Eragu has vanished into thin air for about a month now. Calls to his phone go unanswered, leaving the 25 farmers in a state of distress. Their concerns are compounded by Eragu’s strict instruction not to use any other sprays or additives on their crops, assuring them that he would provide the necessary substances.
Joshua Epoku, the chairperson of the farmers’ group, reveals that Eragu claimed to be based in Otucopi ward of Soroti city. He had confidently assured the farmers of the success they would achieve under his guidance, making his sudden disappearance all the more troubling.

The disappearance of Eragu has plunged the farmers into despair, as they now lack the funds to procure the equipment needed to tend to their gardens. They appeal to Eragu to return and fulfill his promises, allowing them to salvage their investments and livelihoods.
