The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, has challenged Enterprise Uganda to embrace digital platforms to expand entrepreneurship services and enable more Ugandans to benefit from business development support.
Minister Musasizi made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with the Board and Management of Enterprise Uganda, led by Board Chairperson Richard Byarugaba and Executive Director Charles Ocici. The meeting focused on the institution’s contribution to entrepreneurship development and its strategic role in advancing Uganda’s private sector-led growth agenda.
Enterprise Uganda, which was established 25 years ago with support from the United Nations Development Programme, is the country’s leading institution for entrepreneurship development and Business Development Services (BDS).
Minister Musasizi commended Enterprise Uganda for its significant contribution to private sector development and praised the Board for providing strong corporate governance and professional leadership.
He urged the institution to harness digital technologies to broaden access to entrepreneurship services, strengthen post-training mentorship programmes, and provide continuous business support to help entrepreneurs build sustainable enterprises.
The Minister of State for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi, called for stronger monitoring, evaluation and transparent reporting to demonstrate Enterprise Uganda’s impact and attract increased investment from both the public and private sectors.
Lugoloobi also proposed the integration of entrepreneurship education into secondary schools, universities and tertiary institutions to equip young people with practical business skills.
In addition, he recommended introducing orientation programmes for newly elected Members of Parliament on financial management, investment and wealth creation.
The two ministers reaffirmed the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to supporting Enterprise Uganda as a strategic implementation partner in promoting entrepreneurship, enterprise growth and Uganda’s broader agenda of inclusive economic transformation.
