NTUNGAMO – Police in Ntungamo have seized a blue Fuso Fighter with registration number UBN 394 X, loaded with Kazero Energy drink alcoholic Kumbucha manufactured in Uganda.
The interception, carried out at a fuel station in Ntungamo Municipality last week, was the result of diligent tracking using police cameras from Kampala, according to DPC Ntungamo, Hannington Kanimi Busheija. The Fuso had been under surveillance due to suspected defaulting on taxes owed to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
Upon inspecting the impounded Fuso, authorities discovered numerous boxes of Kazero Energy drink alcoholic Kumbucha, lacking the required URA seals. This signaled an attempt to smuggle the beverages into Kabale and Kisoro Districts without fulfilling tax obligations.
DPC Ntungamo Busheija highlighted that the case will be escalated to URA customs for further handling. The suspects involved in the smuggling operation will also be handed over to Revenue Intelligence for a comprehensive investigation.
