Onions are a significant cash crop in Rukiga district, and a considerable number of local farmers are involved in its cultivation. However, the absence of an effective local market forced many to sell their produce to traders in Rwahi trading center in Ntungamo district.

The introduction of the onion market is expected to address this challenge and provide local farmers with a more efficient and beneficial avenue for trading their produce.
