KABALE – Security Operatives in Kabale District have apprehended a Rwandan national, Jaan De Dieu Mbonimpa, on charges of operating an unauthorized Marishari Soft Drink manufacturing facility in Kyanamira Parish, Kyanamira Sub County within Kabale District.
Jaan De Dieu Mbonimpa, hailing from Nyagatare district in Rwanda, was taken into custody earlier this week for conducting his operations without the required permits, including a working permit, certification from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), and a public health certification.
Mbonimpa had in his possession a counterfeit certificate from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), endangering the safety of consumers.
The Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, has confirmed the arrest of the suspect today and revealed that he was arrested on Tuesday this week. Nyakahuma expressed concern over Mbonimpa’s misleading claims that his soft drink possessed curative properties for ailments such as ulcers, liver issues, leukemia, cough, and purportedly enhanced libido.
According to Nyakahuma, the false advertising has led to the distribution of his products in various areas, including Mbarara, Ntungamo, Kabale, Kisoro, Rukiga, and Rukungiri, potentially jeopardizing the health of unsuspecting consumers.
