Bomb Assembler Arrested After Accidental Explosion in Kampala

KAMPALA – The Directorate of Counter-Terrorism, in coordination with the territorial team in Kampala Metropolitan East have have arrested a man alleged to have assembled an explosive that went off mistakenly after its assembler was tampered with.
The explosion prompted police to cordon off the area and conduct a search before arresting the suspect.

SCP Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson, mentioned that during the operation, an assembled IED and various bomb-making materials were seized, including 3 jerrycans of nitric acid, methanol, ethanol, 6 bottles of potassium nitrate, potassium bromide, Ammonium nitrate, lead nitrate, aluminium metal powder, and note/text books on bomb making.

SCP Enanga also stated that the police are currently investigating whether the suspect has any connections to terror groups and potential targets.

He expressed his gratitude to the counter-terrorism squad, the Bomb squad, the territorial teams in KMP East, and the local community in Banda zone II, Nakawa, for their invaluable assistance.
