Deputy LC5 Chairperson Arrested for Raping a Student in Kiruhura

KIRUHURA – Police in Kiruhura District have apprehended Adson Atuhaire, the Deputy LC5 Chairperson of Kiruhura District, who is 30 years old, on charges of allegedly raping a 20-year-old student from Bishop Stuart University.

As per the police statement, the incident occurred on September 8, 2023, around 2 pm in Rwentondo Village, Kakoba Ward, Mbarara City.

Atuhaire exchanged contact information with the victim after she provided directions to the Golden Leaf Bar.

They were traveling in a Toyota Premio with registration number UAT 238Q.Later that evening, he contacted the victim and offered to take her out for the evening.

He picked her up from her hostel in Kakoba Kyapatoni Cell, bought groceries and snacks, but during the return trip, he took a different route and sexually assaulted the victim.

Uganda Police spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, reported that the incident was promptly reported to the police, resulting in the suspect’s arrest and detention at Mbarara Central Police Station.

Additionally, his motor vehicle was impounded.

Enanga emphasized the importance of caution for young women, especially when they are with unfamiliar individuals, particularly when they are alone.

He highlighted the vulnerability of the victim when the suspect diverted from their planned route and committed the assault.
