KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu are currently investigating a distressing case wherein a two-year-old child was secretly laid to rest by his own father in Kambuga Sub County.
The deceased has been identified as One Akampereza, the son of Gerard Akampereza, residing in Kyomuringa cell, Nyarutojo Parish, Kambuga Sub County, Kanungu district.
According to the police report, the child had been born with health complications that persisted and worsened throughout the month of March. Consequently, the child’s stepmother, Ahurira Prossy, took him to Kambuga Hospital, where it was advised that the ailing child required surgery.
Subsequently, neighbors noticed the absence of the child from their home. Concerned, Emmanuel Mugisha, the area chairman, intervened and questioned the father. Shockingly, the father confessed that his son had passed away, and he had buried him alone, a highly irregular action.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region Police, stated that upon receiving the information, the authorities swiftly apprehended both the father and the stepmother.
Maate further informed that the crime scene was meticulously inspected and documented. Suspiciously, fresh soil was discovered behind the toilet, believed to be the burial site. Consequently, an exhumation and postmortem examination are pending a court order.
