Police in Ibanda District are investigating a suspected murder after the decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered on a farm in Rukiri Sub-county.
The body, believed to be that of a man aged about 20, was found on October 9, 2026, in Mpasha Parish, with the right arm reportedly severed completely from the shoulder.
According to a police statement issued on October 10 by Rwizi Region Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, a child who had gone to collect firewood on the farm belonging to Beatrice Mwongyera discovered the body at around 11am.
The child reportedly alerted local council leaders, who subsequently informed police at about 1pm.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the decomposing body at the edge of the farm, which borders a swamp.
Investigators documented the scene before the body was taken to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Preliminary observations indicated that the body could have been at the scene for about a week. The deceased was reportedly wearing tight trousers but had no shirt.
Police suspect that the man may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the location where it was discovered.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the deceased’s identity, determine the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible.
SP Kasasira appealed for information that could help investigators establish the circumstances of the suspected murder.
