KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District are investigating the suspected murder of Pio Byamugisha, alias Kyeba, a resident of Rutoro Cell, Rutugunda Parish in Kirima Subcounty.
According to police, the deceased had been living in Rutoro Cell as a casual laborer for about 10 years and had not returned to his home area in Ibanda District.
He was last seen on Friday, January 31, 2025, at around 6:00 PM at Rutoro Trading Centre.
At the time, he was staying alone in the home of Twesigye Posiano, a resident of the same cell.
Posiano, however, also has another home in Nyamirama where he works and only occasionally visits Rutoro.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, said that on Monday at about 8:30 AM, Annah Kiconco, Posiano’s wife, went to pick vegetables from their garden near the deceased’s residence. She noticed that his door was still closed, which was unusual.
Concerned, she called Byamugisha several times but received no response. She then reported the matter to the area chairman, who, along with other locals, went to the house.
Upon breaking down the door, they found Byamugisha’s lifeless body lying across his bed, naked, with his legs touching the floor.
Maate confirmed that the Kirima Police Post was notified, and the scene was inspected and documented.
Statements were taken from relevant witnesses, and the body was transported to Katate Health Centre IV for a postmortem.
Upon further investigation, it was noted that there was blood discharge from the deceased’s male organ, and his left eye had been completely removed.
