KATAKWI: Police in Katakwi District are investigating the murder of Acumude Phoebe, an 83-year-old woman from Anyanga Village, Cheleuko Parish, Usuk Subcounty, Katakwi District.
She was allegedly killed by Modo Joseph, a 19-year-old resident of the same village.
The incident occurred on November 5, 2024, at around 11:00 p.m. The following morning, on November 6, at approximately 7:05 a.m., the incident was reported by Ipoot Samson, a 52-year-old resident of Anyanga Village and the father of the accused.
According to reports, earlier on November 5 at midday, Modo Joseph had threatened his father with death, prompting Ipoot Samson to report the matter to Usuk Police Station.
After learning of the report, Modo allegedly returned home from a local drinking establishment, went directly to his father’s grass-thatched hut, and attacked him.
Modo reportedly dragged his father into the compound and began beating him with a large stick. Acumude Phoebe, his mother, attempted to intervene, but Modo turned on her, inflicting severe injuries, including a double fracture of her wrist, a nasal fracture, and multiple injuries across her body.
Samson’s alarm attracted the attention of a neighbor, Okwii Moses, who arrived to help and transported the severely injured Acumude Phoebe to Usuk Health Facility. Tragically, she died on the way.
The scene was visited by CID officers, led by D/ASP Magoola Anthony, along with a homicide team and the district SOCCO. The case has been filed under CRB 692/2024, Katakwi CPS, in the East Kyoga Region.
The body of the deceased was transported to Katakwi General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
