- ASP Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, said the security teams have intensified operations during the festive season to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order.
KITGUM: The Joint Security Forces in Kitgum District, led by police, arrested 56 individuals last week for moving past midnight during a night operation.
ASP Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, said the security teams have intensified operations during the festive season to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order.
“The joint security forces have embarked on night operations to eliminate criminal gangs and ensure sanity prevails,” said Oyesigye.
He noted that the 56 individuals would undergo screening, with those identified as criminal elements facing prosecution, while the innocent would be released with a warning against late-night movement.
Oyesigye revealed that some of those arrested were found with housebreaking tools and sharp objects allegedly used for nighttime attacks.
He added that the security forces have already arrested and prosecuted 25 members of criminal gangs this year, who are now serving their sentences.
ASP Oyesigye called on the public to remain vigilant during the festive season and avoid unnecessary night movement to reduce the risk of falling victim to attacks or being arrested during night patrols.
