KANUNGU: Police in Kanungu District have arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly killed a 26-year-old man in Bugongi Sub County.
The suspect, identified as Martin Kamugisha, allegedly used a panga to fatally cut Brian Tumwesigyire, a resident of Murehe “B” village, Kakyinga Parish, Bugongi Sub County in Kanungu District. The incident reportedly occurred following provocation when Tumwesigyire and others hit Kamugisha with a stone, causing severe bleeding.
Kamugisha is currently admitted to Kambuga Hospital in Kanungu District under police guard. According to a police statement, on Friday at 11:00 PM, Kamugisha was on his way home when unknown assailants stoned him from behind. As he turned to see what was happening, he was hit on the right side of his nose, resulting in severe bleeding.

In response, Kamugisha chased after the assailants and inflicted a deep cut on Tumwesigyire’s head. Both parties agreed to seek medical treatment for their injuries. Following the altercation, Kamugisha reported a case of assault at Bugongi police post, while Tumwesigyire went home and slept without informing his parents.
On Saturday morning, Tumwesigyire’s parents found him in his room and rushed him to Kambuga Hospital, where he died before receiving treatment.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, stated that the police were notified of Tumwesigyire’s death, a postmortem was conducted, and Kamugisha was arrested at the same hospital where he is receiving treatment under guard.
