RUKIGA: Police in Rukiga District have arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of defiling a 4-year-old girl in Kashambya Sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Havas Tumwesigyire, also known as Nguru, is a resident of Nyakatojo II Cell, Nyakashebeya Parish, Kashambya Sub-county, Rukiga District. He is currently detained at Rukiga Central Police station.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at around 7:30 PM. The victim’s mother had given her daughter a mobile phone to use as a flashlight while going to the toilet.
When the mother checked on her legs, she found suspected semens around her private part and her skirt was wet.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson say that the case was reported to police, case file was open,
scene visited by a team of police officers, statements recorded from witnesses and the suspect was accordingly arrested to help in investigations.
Maate said that inquiries are ongoing, upon completion will be arraigned before courts of law to answer charges accordingly.
