AMURU – Police in Amuru district have arrested a 20-year-old suspect and peasant farmer identified as Oyet Sunday for an alleged rape incident that occurred on September 20, 2023, at approximately 5Am. in Okojo-andara village, Labala parish, Amuru district.
The suspect forcibly pushed open the victim’s door, which was secured from inside with a stone. He then grabbed the victim by the neck, threatening to harm her if she raised an alarm. Tragically, the victim was sexually assaulted and left with severe injuries. She bravely recounted her traumatic experience to her neighbors, who promptly followed the shoeprints left by the suspect in the muddy ground and apprehended him.
Fred Enanga, the spokesperson for the Uganda Police, confirmed the recovery of the suspect’s underpants, which were found with suspected bloodstains for DNA analysis.
In a separate development, the police in Soroti West are actively searching for 15 suspects involved in the gang rape of a 23-year-old female adult and peasant from Amen “B” cell in Western division. The incident took place on September 19, 2023, at around midnight in Odeke cell, Nakalunya ward, Western division in Soroti City.
Investigations have revealed that on September 18, 2023, after finishing her work, the victim visited her male friend at Camp Swahili until 10 p.m. Later, as she was on her way home, she encountered her two cousins, Isaac and Nathan, who persuaded her to join them for a drink at a bar in wire cell. At around midnight, they left the bar to head home.
However, during their journey home, they were joined by a group of approximately 13 men. Disturbingly, the two cousins brandished knives and threatened to harm the victim unless she removed her clothing. She was then subjected to a horrific gang rape by her cousins and the other 13 individuals. Additionally, her cousins robbed her of her phone, 200,000/= in cash, shoes, vest, bra, and underwear.
Fred Enanga strongly condemns such acts of violence against the elderly and reaffirms the police force’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding all forms of sexual violence against vulnerable women.
He has assured the public that the 20-year-old suspect will face charges for rape, and the police will vigorously pursue the other suspects involved in the gang rape case.
