Man Succumbs to Injuries after a Brutal Brick Attack in Rukungiri

RUKUNGIRI – A 22-year-old man, identified as Amara Tumuhekyi, tragically succumbed to severe bodily injuries following an alleged brick attack on his lower abdomen.

According to a police report, on 07/08/2023, around 10:00 PM, the incident occurred at Bwambara trading center. The victim, accompanied by Tumuramye Abel, also known as Kyagulanyi, and Bainomugisha Seiz, was struck with a brick in the lower abdomen, causing him to collapse.

On 8/08/2023, approximately 01:00 PM, Amara continued to experience intense bodily discomfort. Byabagye Elia and George Karaveri, with whom he was residing at Omukyapa (Bwambara trading center), assisted him to a clinic owned by Agaba Isaac for initial medical attention. Tragically, Amara’s condition worsened, and he passed away around 05:30 PM.

Agaba Isaac (34), a healthcare professional and resident of Kambugu cell, Bwambara parish, Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri district, reported the incident as a case of murder by assault. The deceased has been a resident of Rushaya B cell, Bwambara parish, Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri District.

Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi region police, confirmed the occurrence of the incident. He noted that investigative procedures had been initiated, including a thorough examination and documentation of the crime scene.

One individual, Akampa Erasmas Laban, also known as Kikaka, a casual laborer residing in Rushaya ‘A’ cell, Bwambara parish, Bwambara sub-county in Rukungiri District, was apprehended by the police to aid in their inquiries.

Maate also stated that the deceased’s body had been transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for a postmortem examination. The investigation into this unfortunate incident remains ongoing.
