Police in Katwe are holding five suspects in connection with a series of aggravated robberies committed across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led operation conducted on July 8, 2026, after police received information that some of the robbery suspects were hiding in Nabisalu, near the market in Katwe I Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Public Relations Officer, Racheal Kawala, the operation led to the arrest of Muwanguzi Believer Eddie, Kato Faisal, Katongole Shafic, Kiyingi Abudallah, and Tumwine Derrick.
The arrests stem from investigations into a robbery that occurred on July 6, 2026, at around 3:30 a.m., when a gang of five assailants allegedly broke into a mobile money outlet in Kisingiri Cell, Bunamwaya Parish, Bunamwaya Division in Wakiso District. The suspects reportedly stole an unspecified amount of cash and several mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
During the operation, police searched the suspects’ residences at Gangu B Cell, Busabala Parish in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, where they recovered two pangas believed to have been used in the crimes.
Police also impounded two motor vehicles suspected to have facilitated the robberies. The vehicles include a grey Toyota Noah registration number UBR 796R and an off-white Toyota Wish registration number UA 120CU.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to several other aggravated robberies, including the robbery of a boutique in Seeta, Mukono District, on July 3, 2026, where a black Toyota Noah was reportedly used, as well as a robbery at a lending office in Kawempe Division, Kampala District.
Kawala said the suspects remain in police custody pending court proceedings, while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the criminal gang. She reaffirmed the police’s commitment to pursuing all those involved in the robberies and ensuring they are brought to justice.
