Police in Nateete have arrested two suspects linked to a string of violent panga robberies in Mutundwe, Kampala.
The suspects have been identified as Engulu William, 37, a private security guard, and Mutabazi Paul, 21, a resident of Kabaawo Zone.
According to police, the duo was part of a three-man gang that, at around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, allegedly mounted an illegal roadblock in Kweeba Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Rubaga Division.
Armed with pangas and sticks, the suspects reportedly targeted a boda-boda rider who was transporting two passengers. The gang is said to have forced the victims to lie down before demanding money.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said officers on routine patrol responded promptly to the scene, intercepting the suspects and arresting two of them, while one suspect managed to escape.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the fugitive suspect, with investigations ongoing to identify and apprehend any other accomplices involved in the robberies.
