RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri District are searching for a motorcyclist who fatally knocked down a 45-year-old woman named Sikola, a resident of Kashenyi Cell, Kabwooma Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-County, Rukungiri District.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the accident occurred on Friday at around 6:00 PM in Kagorogoro Cell, along the Rukungiri-Rwerere-Kanungu Maruum Road.
The motorcycle involved, a red Bajaj Boxer with registration number UGE 192Y, was being ridden by an unknown individual who is currently on the run.
The identities of two passengers on the motorcycle at the time of the accident are also yet to be established.
According to Maate, the motorcyclist, who was carrying two passengers, veered off his side of the road and collided with the female victim, who was walking in the opposite direction. Sikola died on the spot.
Police were alerted, visited the scene, and documented the incident. The motorcycle has been taken to Rukungiri Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV), while the body has been taken to Rwakabengo Mortuary for postmortem.
