RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri District have arrested a man accused of killing his 37-year-old wife during a domestic quarrel in Nyarushanje Sub County.
The suspect, identified as Sperius Tuhamize, allegedly killed his wife, Kiiza Doreen, on Monday at around 11:00 PM in Nyabakobora village, Bwanga parish.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. According to Maate, the couple had a domestic dispute, during which Tuhamize accused his wife of infidelity. In the heat of the argument, he reportedly picked up a stick and fatally assaulted her.
Police have since registered a case of murder. The crime scene was visited and documented, statements were recorded from witnesses, and a stick believed to have been used in the assault was recovered as evidence. Kiiza’s body was transported to Rwakabengo HC3 mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing, and Maate assured that the suspect will be arraigned in court to face charges once inquiries are complete.
