RUKUNGIRI: Police in Rukungiri District are hunting for a suspect who is on the run after allegedly killing his biological brother, Henry Mugarura (48), a Uganda People’s Defense Force veteran and resident of Katooma Cell, Kigaaga Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Ategyeka Banabas, a resident of the same area.
According to Maate, on Wednesday at around 7:00 a.m. in Katooma Cell, Ategyeka assaulted his elder brother, Mugarura Henry, leading to his death in a dispute over milk from their parents’ cows.
Maate added that Mugarura had left his wife, Kiconco Blessing, at home and gone to the family house, where the suspect was staying with their sister, Tushabe Annet.
Ategyeka is said to have used an iron bar to assault Mugarura. Maate said that Police visited, examined, and documented the crime scene, collected witness statements, and recovered the iron bar used in the attack.
He noted that the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III Mortuary for a postmortem as the suspect is still on the run.
