Security Guard, Others Wanted Over UGX 12M Heist & Property Theft

KABALE – Police in Kabale District are intensively pursuing Joshua Akankwasa, a security guard employed by Centurian Security Company, along with other individuals who are currently evading authorities.

They are believed to be involved in a significant robbery, where a sum of 12,577,400 Ugandan Shillings, a computer (CPU), and a monitor were stolen. The stolen items are the property of Protos PMC Distributors Ltd.

According to an official police statement, Christopher Mukama (26), the manager of Protos PMC Distributors Ltd, Pepsi Depot Kabale, and a resident of Kanyakiriro Cell, Nyabikoni Ward, Central Division in Kabale Municipality, reported the incident. The case has been categorized as an aggravated robbery.

Reportedly, on the night of August 15, 2023, around 11:00 PM, the depot manager securely locked up the premises, leaving the aforementioned security guard on duty for the night. Subsequent events alleged that on August 16, 2023, approximately at 01:18 AM, at Pepsi Depot Kabale, the security guard identified as Akankwasa Joshua, armed with a firearm and accompanied by another individual, conducted a robbery. The stolen items, valued at 12,577,400 Ugandan Shillings, along with a computer (CPU) and a monitor, belonged to Protos PMC Distributors Ltd.

The following morning, on August 16, 2023, around 07:15 AM, the manager arrived for duty to find signs of forced entry. The rear door had been forcibly opened, leading to the discovery of a similarly broken-into office. Inside the office, the manager found the security guard’s firearm placed on his desk. The office drawer had been tampered with, and the money stored within it, along with the CPU and monitor, had been stolen. The incident was swiftly reported to the Kabale Police Station under the reference number SD 26/16/08/2023.

Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi Region Police, has shared that the crime scene is scheduled for re-examination by the Regional Scene of Crime Officer (Reg.SOCO) and their team. During the investigation, a firearm registered under the number Ug-PSO-811448608634 was recovered as evidence.
